1 Elizabeth
Revitalising a city block, this landmark tower’s aerodynamic form is shaped by its context
10am–4pm

About the building
Opened in 2024, 1 Elizabeth is a brand-new commercial building that’s seamlessly integrated with the new Metro Martin Place station beneath it.
Designed by Johnson Pilton Walker for Macquarie Group, the mixed-use, high-density tower has been shaped by its context and compact site. The singular aerodynamic form maximises sun and sky views. The curvilinear, silver, faceted facade echoes the dome atop 50 Martin Place, and the curved corners address public spaces diagonally across the major streets.
Lifting the tower on 15-metre-high columns above the street brings light and air into the public space at the heart of the site. Here, central atria are surrounded by landscaping, public art, retail and places for people to relax and socialise. Footbridges connect 1 Elizabeth to 50 Martin Place across the original lightwell.
On Level 2 of 1 Elizabeth is The Art Space, a public gallery that is currently exhibiting works from the Macquarie Group Collection’s annual Emerging Artist Prize.
On the ground floor is an exhibition of artworks by emerging artists from refugee backgrounds. Hosted by Settlement Services International (SSI), the exhibition celebrates the creativity and talents of artists participating in the SSI Creative Compass program, a unique initiative that supports newly arrived refugee artists as they develop their careers and build meaningful community connections.
