The tours, talks, and activations listed below are all part of the Sydney Open program and are free for ticket holders. However, each tour has a limited capacity and will accept attendees on a first come, first served basis. Due to the expected popularity of these events, attendees are invited to put their names down for events of interest during the day to secure their spot.
Join Anzac Memorial guides on a tour of the Memorial, including behind-the-scenes access to the heritage office spaces. The tour will focus on the history of the Memorial along with key architectural elements.
Join retired Government Architect Bernard Connell on a special 45-minute tour at 11.30am and 1pm to hear more about the architecture of the Anzac Memorial and its urban setting.

An Australian Museum guide will give a short introduction to the museum’s first building, the Lewis Wing, and take visitors behind the scenes to the original William Street entry and foyer, boardroom and Krefft Room.
Step aboard HMAS Vampire to engage with the vessel’s rich history and clever design solutions and discover how each element has been designed to serve both function and form. Exploring the intricacies of naval engineering, visitors will gain insight into the unique challenges faced by shipbuilders, from selecting resilient materials to integrating advanced technology, all while ensuring the crew’s comfort and safety. This guided tour highlights the complex interplay between tradition and innovation that shapes maritime architecture, offering a deeper appreciation of life at sea.
Dominic Tanaka Van De Ven and Ben Mitchell, architects from Smart Design Studio and Those Architects respectively, will be at Bundarra to answer visitors’ questions about the building and interior fit out.

Learn the secrets of Naala Badu and encounter one-of-a-kind artworks created especially for the building. This exclusive Sydney Open tour will include access to Australia’s most dramatic exhibition space, the Tank, and will take visitors behind-the-scenes to see how it was completely transformed for Mike Hewson’s exhibition The Key’s Under the Mat.

Meet our architects and see firsthand how building designs evolve through iterative sketches, visualisations and design reviews. Try your hand at sketching on our blackboards, watch 3D printing in action, dive into some Lego building activities or experience spatial design with a VR headset.
Architects Peter Besley and Jessica Spresser will talk about being selected for the project after winning the national design competition, and the process of making the pavilion.
